We began with this project by analysing the site and the surrounding city, that being Austin. Looking at the creek and how the ecology connects to the larger ecosystem. looking at the building zoning and historical building use.

We then used a series of study models that came from our analysis of small towns within texas. These abstract drawings are very successful in conveying solid mass vs the openings. This would be the foundation of what the building would become.

The form of the building game from the study models and were heavily developed from the abstract analysis. The main issue with this project was the lack of square footage. This required us to create very unique and tall structural systems in order to support a large number of pools.

These floor plans used the maximum amount of space in order to reach the required square footage within a very small site.

These sections show off the very complex screening system that acts as a second skin and shading device for the platforms within the building. The full open air interior allows conectivity within the different pools and spaces. This second screen was created using a custom made grasshopper script.

These renderings show how the second skin would work within the building to provide shade to the interior.

Model photos showing the structural system, site and a portion of the screening system which allows you to see how the shading would work with real light conditions.
